A Great Book for Fans of Baseball or Not!

This amazing book by Sharon Robinson (Yes she is related to Jakie Robinson) is a great book for fans of the New York Dodgers or people who have never even heard of them! This book is about baseball like the Harry Potter series is about Quidditch. You could not know the difference between first and second bases and still, greatly enjoy this book!

So, this book is about 8-year-old Steve. However, the book does not start out talking about Steve as an 8-year-old. When the book starts, Steve is much older and his Dad had just died. He is sitting depressed in his room when his mom brings him up a box. She says that she'll let him open it in peace. Steve's relationship with his dad had crumbled over recent years, so he wondered what could be in the box. When he opened it what he saw amazed him! His Dad had collected some of the most important things from his childhood! Steve had no idea that his father cared deeply enough to collect all of these things for him! So, you must be wondering what is in this box!

Steve reaches into the box and pulls out the first thing, on the top, an opening day Dodgers ticket! The book then flashes back to that point in time, when Steve started asking his dad to go to the opening day game! However, when Steve finds out that his hero the first African-American player on any Major League team Jakie Robinson is moving only 2 doors down, he looses focus on anything but meeting Jakie and becoming friends with him!

If you enjoy a true story of friendship with a bit of baseball then you should enjoy this book! To find out if Steve manages to make friends with Jakie and to hear the other humorous stories in this book, then read on!
