A Heartwarming Story of a Loyal Dog: Hachiko Waits

Hachiko Waits is a true story about a loyal dog that would not give up on his owner, even when his owner passed away.

Hachiko is an Akita Inu breed dog, a dog known for its loyalty. Hachiko's owner is Professor Elizaburo Ueno, a well-respected professor at the local university. Hachiko and The Professor have always had the same schedule. Their day always started with breakfast, Professor Ueno soon found out that Hachiko preferred chicken roasted on a stick (also known as yakitori). Then when the professor left to teach his students, Hachiko would accompany him to the station. Hachiko would then go on his way and enjoy himself before returning promptly st 3:00 P.M. every day to pick up his master. However, one day Hachiko's master did not return, he had died of a cerebral hemorrhage at the university. But Hachi persisted and Hachi waited for his master to get off the train. Every day he would come at 3:00 sharp and wait for the professor! He repeated this every day until his death. The station-master, a good friend of Hachiko and Professor Ueno commissions the build of a statue in remembrance of Hachi, the loyal dog of Odate, Japan. Hachiko's name, however, wasn't always what it is. He started out as just Hachi. However, in Japanese culture, the ko added to the end of a name means prince or loyalty, and Hachi was that and more!
